Why Antibiotic Discipline Matters
Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest threats to global health. Every time you take antibiotics incorrectly, you risk creating resistant bacteria. Here are 7 rules every patient must follow.
1. Always Complete the Full Course
Never stop antibiotics when you feel better. Bacteria may still be alive and stopping early creates resistant strains.
2. Take at the Right Time
Follow the prescribed interval exactly — if twice daily, take every 12 hours.
3. Never Share Antibiotics
Your prescription is specific to your bacteria, your dose, your duration.
4. Do Not Skip Doses
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember — unless your next dose is very close.
5. Store Properly
Most antibiotics should be stored below 25°C, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
6. Avoid Alcohol
Alcohol can reduce effectiveness and worsen side effects of many antibiotics.
7. Tell Your Doctor About All Medicines
Drug interactions are real. Always disclose all medicines including supplements.
